I thought you might be looking for a healthier alternative for a warm drink on these cooler nights that have just blasted us rather quickly here.
We now have Drinking Chocolate in stock again. We have found that cacao has had a price increase lately so we have looked at all alternatives this year and have made the step towards packaging up our own.
You might ask, what is the difference between the drinking chocolate available at the supermarket as compared to ours? Approximately 15 months ago I purchased a drinking chocolate for my grand-children that was marked as sugar free. At times the grandkids love having a cuppa with us.
After reading the ingredients list I realised it had soy lecithin in it. Now I am certainly not a fan of soy products full stop. My recommendation to you here is to do your own research on soy. I was quite disappointed to find soy as an ingredient in this particular product so that started the search for us.
The main ingredient in our drinking chocolate is cacao and sweetened by coconut sugar. It is free of the nasties or not so healthful additives found in a lot of other brands but still very tasty.
Cacao powder comes from the raw cacao bean and is loaded with anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are important for us as they neutralise free radicals. Free radicals are said to damage our cells causing illness and disease. Hence, anti-oxidants are very important to us.
The other main ingredient is coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is made from the sap of the cut flower buds of the coconut. It is low GI and contains more minerals than cane sugar. The Diabetes Organisation say that it is okay for diabetics to use coconut sugar as a sweetener …..
Packaging Drinking Chocolate ourselves has enabled us to keep the price down and note that it is actually lower than last year’s price.
Enjoy this healthier alternative.
